Executive Coaching

Somatic Coaching for Executive Burnout in Singapore

For leaders who are still delivering but running on empty: a body-aware way to recover energy, steadiness and perspective, in person in Singapore or online.

The short answer

Somatic coaching for burnout combines executive coaching with body-based practices such as TRE™, breathwork and mindfulness. You work on what is driving the exhaustion, from workload and boundaries to values and leadership habits, while learning to settle your nervous system. Isabelle coaches in person in Singapore and online.

Understanding Burnout

What Is Executive Burnout?

The World Health Organization classifies burnout as an occupational phenomenon: a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It has three marks: exhaustion, growing mental distance or cynicism about work, and a drop in professional effectiveness. It is not classed as a medical condition, but it deserves to be taken seriously.

In senior roles, burnout rarely looks like collapse. More often it looks like a capable person who is still delivering, but sleeping badly, short with the people they care about, and needing more effort to achieve less.

Because burnout can overlap with depression, anxiety and physical health problems, see your doctor if you are exhausted most of the time, have slept poorly for weeks or feel hopeless. Coaching works alongside that care, not instead of it.

Stress in the Body

Why Does Burnout Live in the Body?

Burnout builds when the stress response stays switched on for months. The body keeps bracing: shallow breathing, tight shoulders and jaw, disrupted sleep, a nervous system that struggles to rest even on holiday. That is why thinking differently is often not enough. Recovery also means helping the body feel safe again.

Isabelle knows this from the inside. She spent more than 30 years as a senior HR business partner and talent management leader in Fortune 100 companies across 9 countries, and went through her own hardship in toxic work environments. Somatic practices, TRE™ and mindfulness were central to her own way back. In her words, she does not do this work “from a distance”.

The Approach

What Is Somatic Coaching?

Somatic coaching is coaching that includes the body. Alongside the usual conversation about goals, choices and patterns, you learn to notice what happens physically under pressure and practise simple ways to settle. The aim is leadership that comes from a steadier nervous system, not just a new plan you are too depleted to carry out.

Isabelle’s coaching is somatic, trauma-informed and neuroscience-informed. She is an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC), has been a certified leadership coach since 2012, and is trained in Strozzi Somatic Bodywork and mindfulness. She is also a Global TRE™ Certifying Trainer.

Coaching is not therapy and does not treat mental health conditions. It focuses on the present and the future: how you want to lead, live and recover, and what will help you get there.

Two Levels

How Can Somatic Coaching Help With Burnout?

Somatic coaching works on two levels. In the body, practices such as TRE™, breathwork and mindfulness give your nervous system regular chances to downshift. In your work and life, coaching helps you rethink the patterns that keep you depleted: boundaries, priorities, perfectionism, values and how you lead. Many people find the two reinforce each other.

In practice, a coaching engagement might include:
