Questions & Answers

TRE™ Questions, Answered

Everything people ask before trying TRE™, in one place.

Short, honest answers to the questions people ask most before trying TRE™ — from what it is and whether it is safe, to sessions, training and certification.

About TRE™

What is TRE™?

TRE™ (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises) is a short sequence of simple exercises that activates the body’s natural tremor reflex to release stress and tension. It was developed by Dr. David Berceli. For a full introduction, read What is TRE™?

Why does the body shake?

Tremoring is a natural way for the nervous system to settle after stress, seen in many mammals. TRE™ gently invites this reflex in a safe, controlled way. Read more about the science of neurogenic tremors.

Who is TRE™ for?

Anyone who wants a simple, body-based way to manage stress: busy professionals, leaders, coaches, therapists, carers and people recovering from burnout. No fitness level or experience is needed.

Do I need to talk about my trauma or past experiences?

No. You never need to talk about what happened. The body releases in its own way — no narrative required.

How is TRE™ different from therapy?

TRE™ is a self-help practice, not a therapy. It works with the body rather than with conversation, and many people use it alongside therapy or coaching.

Safety

Is TRE™ safe?

For most healthy adults it is a gentle, low-risk practice, and you can stop the tremors at any time. Some people should speak to a doctor or therapist first. Read Is TRE™ safe? for the full guide.

How do I stop the tremors?

Straighten your legs and lie flat, or roll onto your side. The tremors settle within moments.

Will I feel anything afterwards?

Most people feel calmer and more grounded. Some feel tired, slightly sore or emotional for a day. Drink water, rest, and keep your next practice shorter.

Sessions

Do I need any previous experience?

None at all. Every practice is designed to meet you where you are — no prior experience needed.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies. Most people can practise TRE™ on their own after 3–4 guided sessions. Coaching typically runs 6–12 sessions. Isabelle will be upfront about what she thinks you need.

Can sessions be done online?

Yes. All sessions are available online via Zoom. In-person sessions are available in Singapore and Japan. Here is how to prepare for an online session.

What should I wear and bring?

Loose, comfortable clothing, a yoga mat, and a pillow or blanket. Online, you also need a camera that can see your whole body.

Is TRE™ available for corporate teams?

Yes — group TRE™ and team resilience programmes are available. See retreats and workshops or contact us to explore options.

What is the cancellation policy?

24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Life happens — just let Isabelle know.

Training & Certification

How do I become a certified TRE™ provider?

Complete Modules 1, 2 and 3 of the Global TRE™ Provider Certification, each a 2-day workshop with online sessions and supervision, plus the practice requirements. See TRE™ certification.

Can I take Module 1 just for myself?

Yes. Module 1 can be booked on its own and qualifies you to use TRE™ for your personal practice.

Do the trainings carry ICF CCEs?

Yes. TRE™ Module 1 carries 21 ICF CCEs for coaches (16 Resource Development + 5 Core Competencies). Read TRE™ training with ICF CCEs.

Where are the next trainings?

Singapore from February 2027 and Lisbon in May 2027. See all upcoming events.

This guide is general information, not medical advice. TRE™ is a self-help practice and is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment by a doctor or mental health professional.
